      Acceptable documents:

      To legally supply number plates we are required to see the original documents that:

        • prove your name and address

        • show you’re allowed to use the registration number

      Please provide a document from both Part 1 and Part 2 below:

      Part 1: Identity documents

      You can use the following to confirm your name and address:

        • driving licence

        • utility, Council Tax or rates bill from the last 6 months

        • bank or building society statement from the last 6 months

        • national identity card

      The following will confirm your name only:

        • passport - does not have to be issued in the UK

        • bank or building society debit or credit card

        • police warrant card

        • armed forces identity card

      The law permits purchasing number plates as gifts, thus the ID document does NOT need to match the registration entitlement documentation.

      Part 2: Proving you can use the registration number

      You must bring one of the following to show you’re allowed to display the registration number:

        • vehicle registration certificate (V5C or V5CNI)

        • green ‘new keeper’ slip from the V5C or V5CNI

        • certificate of entitlement (V750 or V750NI) to the number

        • retention document (V778)

        • a renewal reminder for vehicle tax or SORN (V11 or V11NI)

        • temporary registration certificate (V379 or V379NI)

        • a number plate authorisation certificate (V948) with an official stamp from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA)

        • an electronic number plate authorisation certificate (eV948 or eV948/2)

        • a letter of authorisation from a fleet operator (including lease or hire company) quoting the document reference number from the registration certificate

        • if your fleet is in the new V5C on demand scheme (also called ‘V5C suppression’), a PDF of the vehicle’s details from the view vehicle record service

        • UK trailer registration certificate (VTRC)

      Tinted plates are sold strictly as show plates. By choosing tinted plates you are acknowledging the fact that they are not legal plates and are ONLY show plates.

    Size

    The size of a standard plate number is 520mm by 111mm for vehicles in the UK. A shortened personalised number plate is legal, providing it has at least one letter and one number. (Please note this size will vary if you opt for our shortened plate option. Shortened plates are available in 14”, 16” and 18” depending on the length of your registration number. If you are unsure if your registration will fit in a shortened version please ask and we would be happy to help.)

    WHAT ARE 4D NUMBER PLATES?

    If you’re sat there thinking “what is a 4d number plate?”, then the answer is simple! “4D plates” are the latest addition to number plate text styles. 4D laser cut plates use acrylic that is configurable to any of your number plate designs. The new raised 4D plate style adds an even more personal and premium feel to your bespoke number plate design.

    ARE 4D NUMBER PLATES LEGAL?

    We often get asked various questions about the legality of 4D plates, such as “are 4d plates legal” and “are 4d reg plates legal”, and the simple answer is absolutely yes! The DVLA states that characters must be solid black, which makes 4D number plates legal!  The jet black acrylic characters have been designed and laser cut to match standard Charles Wright Font text with exacting standards. The number plate material that you add this text style to is made to the same British Standards (BS AU 145e) that all legal number plates must adhere to.     As explained above, the term ‘4D’ is just what the industry refers to them as, in order to distinguish between them and 3D Gel plates. Unfortunately, our 4D car plates don’t travel through time just yet…

    Warranty

    All plates are supplied with 12 months warranty covering manufacturing defects or naturally occurring issues. The warranty does not cover customer inflicted faults. Please note BSAU145e regulations recommend using sticky adhesive pads to attach the number plates to the vehicle. For any warranty issues please contact us via the contact us page or email.
